As the spring breezes in and grass begins to sprout, Zhunneng Group held a voluntary tree-planting activity titled “Building Green Mines, Creating an Eco-friendly Future with Zhunneng” on April 17, with over 400 employees engaging in the activity to promote ecological conservation and green mine construction.
At the 1300 platform of the Ha’erwusu open-pit coal mine’s internal waste dump, Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica (1,557 pcs) and Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge (3,951 pcs) were placed in neat rows, with staff quickly engaging in the activity according to designated areas. Groups of two to three worked together to hold the saplings, fill in soil, and build cofferdams, creating a bustling scene. After two hours of hard work, the saplings stood firm against the wind, injecting green impetus into the mine.
“This is my first time participating in a tree planting activity. As a new graduate, I feel delighted to plant trees with so many colleagues, and it gives me a great sense of accomplishment to contribute to the greening of the mine”, said Zhunneng employee representative Yang Fan.
Green stands as a prominent symbol of Zhunneng Group’s transformation and development. Since 2016, the Group has held annual voluntary tree planting activities for ten consecutive years. Over 6,400 employees, including officials and workers, participated in the tree planting activities and more than 80,000 trees were planted.
“I believe the Group has done an excellent job in building green mines, making outstanding contributions to local ecological environment improvements. The mine area is lush with greenery, stretching out beyond our sight. Seeing the saplings take root fills me with a deep sense of joy”, said Guo Zhihui, a representative from the Equipment Maintenance Center.
With bare mountains adorned in greenery and deserts transformed into oases, the Group fully practices the concept of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, continuously exploring new paths for green mine construction and ecological conservation. It has been recognized as a national-level green mine and the Most Beautiful Mine in China, included in the first batch of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” practical innovation bases, as well as one of the first typical cases among mining enterprises in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Over the years, it has invested a total of RMB 2.992 billion into greening and reclamation, completing afforestation over an area of 99,500 mu (about 6,633 hectares). The Group has established 2,394 mu (about 160 hectares) of CHN Energy’s ecological forest, with vegetation coverage soaring from 25% to over 85%, and the number of plant species increasing to over 240. The reclamation rate of mining areas has reached 100%, enabling positive ecological succession and virtuous cycles, thereby continually solidifying the foundation for the ecological barrier in northern China and safeguarding a verdant landscape.
